A new chamber ensemble from Foothills Community Choir
A small circle of FCC singers and a stack of music worth getting lost in. We're just getting started, and we'd love for you to follow along.

The Footnotes1 are a small group of Foothills Community Choir singers who gather to explore chamber music,2 the kind written for a handful of voices rather than a full stage.
Think of it as FCC, up close. Every Footnote is a member of the full choir and still sings with everyone on Tuesday nights. And FCC is, and will stay, a non-audition community choir.
Our choir has always made room for every kind of singer. For some, FCC is their very first choir. Others have been singing for decades and are still hungry for the next challenge. The Footnotes are for that curiosity: a chance to hear what a few voices can do when each one counts.
Fewer voices, closer listening, and a whole lot of music to discover.
What changes when the group gets smaller
You hear everything
You can pick out the alto three chairs down and the tenor who sneaks a breath early. Before long, you're tuning to each other instead of the piano.
Your part carries weight
Parts split often, and a line might rest on two or three voices. You'll know your music cold, and you'll learn to trust yourself with it.
You help shape it
With fewer people in the room, there's space to try a phrase a new way and hear what happens. Where one breath lands can change a whole piece.
It comes home with you
Sharper ears, steadier entrances, and quicker sight-reading don't stay in the small room. They come back to Tuesday rehearsals, and the whole choir sounds better for it.
Under the Direction of
Taylor Gonzales
The Footnotes are led by Taylor Gonzales, FCC's music director and the musician our singers already follow every Tuesday night.
Taylor chooses the repertoire, runs the rehearsals, and will shape this group's sound from its very first downbeat. For our singers, it's a chance to work with a director they already trust, only closer, with more detail and fewer places to hide.
We can't wait to hear where Taylor takes it.
Music worth a second listen
We're gathering pieces with independent lines,3 rich harmonies, and enough going on to keep us curious for weeks. Expect composers you know and a few you'll be glad to meet, with older works sitting right beside brand-new ones.
Some pieces will ask for a hush so still you can hear the room breathe. Others will send every part off on its own adventure at once. Our hope is simple: music that's as much fun to sing as it is to hear.

Everyone grows at their own pace at FCC. Some of us are learning to read music for the first time. Some are finding our footing in a section. Others want a part that keeps us on our toes.

A few good questions
Is this a separate choir?
Not at all. The Footnotes are part of Foothills Community Choir, and every Footnote is an FCC singer.
Do Footnotes still sing with the full choir?
Absolutely. The Footnotes happen on top of regular FCC rehearsals and concerts. No one trades the big choir for the small one.
I'm an FCC member. How can I get involved?
